Paris is Burning Critique: Students will be required to write a critical response paper to the film Paris is Burning. Students will be expected to engage with the readings from class to formulate an argument surrounding topics discussed in the film. The critique should be 2-3 pages long. The Paris is Burning Critique will count for 15% of your final grade.
- In the critique, students should choose one of the following questions to address: • Reflect on the film Paris is Burning through the lens of another author examining queerness. Using at least one other article from the section, describe the similarities and differences you find between the experiences of the participants in Ball culture and what the author describes in her article.
- Compare hook’s and Butler’s critiques of the film Paris is Burning.
- How are they similar?
- Which is a more relevant critique of the film and why?
- What are these articles missing-do you think they ignore certain important aspects of the film?
