Papers: You will write two formal essays for this course. They must conform to MLA style and provide adequate documentation.
- Paper One (750-1250 words), 15% of final grade, due via Turnitin :
- You will write a thesis-driven essay that analyzes one of the stories from the first half of the semester. Choose from these topics:
- Explain how a minor character helps us to understand an important theme or idea
- Explain how a setting or settings function within a story
- Explain the use of a particular symbol or set of symbols
- This paper must be entirely original and contain no language from outside sources. Paper One will receive a grade of zero if it contains any outside material.
- Your paper will receive a grade of F if it fails to meet or if it exceeds the permissible word range (750-1250 words).
- Paper Two (1250-2000 words), 20% of final grade, due via Turnitin :
- You will write a thesis-driven essay that analyzes one or two (but no more) texts from any point in the semester. You will develop your own topic for this essay.
- This paper must incorporate at least two legitimate outside sources (also called secondary sources). Your paper will receive a grade of zero if it does not include at least two legitimate outside sources.
- Your paper will receive a grade of F if it fails to meet or if it exceeds the permissible word range (1250-2000 words).
